Ortodontic Treatment - Summary

Orthodontics is a branch of dentistry that analyzes how crooked and misaligned teeth relate to one another, determines deteriorated situations, and implements necessary treatments.

Along with diagnosing, preventing, and treating tooth and jaw incompatibilities, orthodontics is also in charge of treating undesired facial features.

How should I Form a Smile?

With orthodontics, the teeth and occasionally the jaws are realigned without reducing the natural teeth, giving you a smile made of your own teeth that are arranged normally.

A crowded mouth can result in gingival recession, gingival inflammation, and early tooth loss. Even though they can be cleaned with a toothbrush and dental floss because they are in the mouth, dental caries develops when comprehensive oral hygiene is not always attainable.

These factors make orthodontic therapy very significant. At any age, it is simple to correct teeth that are positioned incorrectly. Together, the orthodontist and the patient decide on the course of treatment, including whether fixed orthodontics or orthodontics using clear aligners will be used.

If a person's teeth and jaws are crowded for skeletal reasons, early detection of this condition will help to attain the appropriate tooth alignment (10-12 years). Skeletal issues can be resolved in older age groups, but the process takes longer and occasionally requires surgery. Though most orthodontic issues are inherited, bad behaviors like thumb sucking and mouth breathing can also be quite detrimental.

What is the Course of Orthodontic Treatment?

Fixed Orthodontic Treatment:

Planning for orthodontic treatment involves taking an impression from teeth during the initial appointment. The teeth are then begin to be positioned in accordance with this plan after the placement of wires and brackets. The necessary modifications, alterations, and elastics are applied during the sessions at intervals of three to six weeks (the orthodontist determines this interval), and the therapy is continued until the desired teeth alignment is achieved

When a treatment is finished, it moves on to a phase known as reinforcement therapy. The application of a retainer and the treatment process (transparent plaque) differ from person to person.

Clear Aligner Therapy:

The planning step is launched after the digital impression of the person is taken, or after the plaster model acquired by taking a direct impression is scanned.

The stages that must be completed during the treatment procedure are decided upon when the planning is authorized, and transparent plaques are created.

Transparent plaques are used to control the course of treatment as it is being administered under the direction of an orthodontist at predetermined intervals.

The phase of consolidation is finished at the end of the treatment.

Why do People Need Orthodontic Treatment?

First and foremost, a lovely smile, chewing, and speaking function are offered. There is a rise in self-confidence with a lovely smile. Teeth and interdental spaces are obtained that are easier to clean.

How Is Oral Care Performed Throughout Orthodontic Therapy?

Due to the excessive number of retention surfaces created by brackets connected to teeth, they greatly increase the risk of caries. Therefore, it is important to frequently clean all of the surfaces and spaces of the teeth, as well as the regions where the brackets adhere to the surface of the teeth.

To clean the surface, use toothbrushes that are appropriate for the cables and brackets. Products like interdental brushes and mouthwashes should be used to keep the gaps between brackets and wires clean. In the absence of this, food particles adhering to the extra holding surfaces can quickly lead to issues like poor breath, gingival redness, gingival swelling, and tooth decay.

Orthognathic Surgery

Instead of being dental, some conditions may be skeletal (jawbone). If they are discovered in early ages, such issues can be remedied with referral treatments.

The disorders can be controlled by removing and adding different unique surgical techniques from the bones after the period of skeletal disease development has ended, if the development cannot always be guided as desired or if no intervention is done. At this stage, the jaw bones' incompatibilities are set up, and the teeth that had previously had orthodontic treatment are put into closure. These operations are referred to as orthognathic surgery and are carried out under general anesthesia.

Treatment with Orthodontic Reinforcement

No intervention is made to the teeth with brackets and wires or translucent plaques at the conclusion of orthodontic therapy, which is typically the case. The jawbone's mineralization is anticipated to accelerate during this time. The goal of the reinforcing therapy is to maintain the teeth's established placements.

How Long does Orthodontic Treatment Take?

Sadly, it is impossible to estimate the exact length of orthodontic therapy. Only an interval can be administered even after the intraoral inspection. Due to the fact that orthodontic treatment can vary greatly based on a person's bone structure, how well they use the provided elastics, how carefully they heed the warnings, etc.

Treatment with Clear Aligners

Orthodontic treatment with clear aligners is a broad term for wire-free orthodontic procedures used to treat dental issues with specially produced clear aligners (aligners). The absence of an image of the wires and brackets used during orthodontic treatment, as well as the fact that plaque is typically not even detected, are the most crucial justifications for utilizing translucent plates.

Every 3 to 4 weeks, an orthodontist check-up appointment is scheduled when utilizing clear aligners. Additionally, the changeover to new records is planned. Plaques are typically provided to the patient by the orthodontist and updated every one - two weeks..

It is simple to take off and put back on while drinking, eating, or brushing your teeth.

All ages of people can receive clear aligners. After the orthodontist has examined the patient, compliance with the therapy is assessed.
